The Recruitment Assistant supports and enhances the organization’s HR recruitment initiatives by driving results and contributing to team/unit efforts by accomplishing established goals. The Recruitment Assistant will assist in recruitment activities to attract the best candidates in the market and be responsible for the full spectrum of Gate Gourmet Canada hiring process from identifying needs, shortlisting candidates, closing successful hires and onboarding. The position supports our operations client group across Canada with the recruitment of hourly employees in such departments as Make & Pack, Food Production, Food Stores, Equipment Stores, Wares Wash (dishwashers), Final Assembly, Transport (loaders/runners/drivers) and Galley Build.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Day to day recruitment activities such as sourcing and screening
  • Building a strong applicant pipeline including identifying and building relationships with top talent through our tailored recruitment strategy of targeted events and programs
  • Understands and explains company policies, programs, benefits and related information
  • Proactively approaches sourcing and identifying the most appropriate attraction methods for any recruitment
  • Assist in the Delivery of full-cycle recruitment services across all departments
  • Direct sourcing through indeed.com and other recruitment platforms
  • Assist in ensuring recruitment requirements are captured, prioritized and delivered on time
  • Conduct pre-screening phone interviews, onsite tours, onsite interviews, job fairs and criminal checks
  • Reach out to Employment Centers to post jobs and build connections
  • Responsible for successful onboarding of new employees up to and including collecting and processing new hire onboarding documentation, keying new hire into Workday system
  • Assists in HR functions and or projects as required
  • Assists both the National Recruiter (Canada) and HR Specialist with day to day activities as assigned
  • From time to time assists HRIS team with special projects and or assignments
  • Delivers new hire orientation in absence of HR Specialist
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, ideally in HR or pursuing bachelor’s degree or certificate in Human Resources from a recognized institution
  • One (1) year of relevant internship and/or professional work experience in Recruitment/Talent Acquisition and or relevant post-secondary education a strong asset
  • HR designation a definitive asset
Work Experience:
  • Experience working in an airline, transportation, hospitality, manufacturing or food service environment highly desirable.
  • Experience having worked in a unionized environment highly desirable/strong asset
Technical Skills: (Certification, Licenses and Registration)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal employment law, labour laws and government compliance requirements
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High energy, dynamic individual with the ability to excel in a fast-paced professional services environment
  • You are autonomous and very motivated to reaching team goals
  • Flexible and able to work in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Effective relationship building and ability to work as a member of a diverse and multidisciplinary team.

  • Some exposure to HR systems (Workday) is a strong asset

  • Have the ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and exceptional organization skills required for our rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • Accountable for accuracy and timelines of work within the department
Language / Communication Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must also be a good listener.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and to both unionized and salary employees.
  • Presentation skills and ability to speak in front of groups is a strong asset
