Function & Overview


Reporting to the Registrar, the Recruitment & Liaison Officer is responsible for the delivery of a student recruitment program for Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) including, but not limited to, all full and part time postsecondary, continuing education and preparatory programs. The position will be an influential resource to attract potential students, maximize enrolment, and enhance our position within the postsecondary community. The Recruitment & Liaison Officer is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).


Duties


The duties of the Recruitment & Liaison Officer – include, without limitation:


Community Liaison

  • Building and maintaining relationships with schools and community organizations, using a combination of telephone calls, personal visits, and email and social media channels;
  • Advising prospective applicants/students via 1 on 1 and group settings, using an advising model, on program options, admission requirements, pathways, upgrading, transfer credits, etc;
  • Responding to student enquiries about programs and admission processes in coordination with the Admissions Officer;
  • Working collaboratively with the Student Affairs team to ensure that SNP is participating in community events and Provincial recruitment events such as education and career fairs, relevant conference trade shows, APSIP tour and any other relevant events that will promote and maximize enrollment of SNP programs and services;
  • Crafting and delivering presentations to promote programming to prospective students and community organizations;
  • Advising and aiding students in applying for scholarships, bursaries, college and university applications, postsecondary loans, OSAP, Band funding, and other student funding that may become available, in coordination with the Student Affairs team;
  • Hosting service providers, guidance counsellors, and community members;
  • Liaising with program areas to obtain upcoming program information and to provide insight on competitor programs;

Events

  • Coordinating campus events and attend events related to recruitment initiatives, for example, Open Houses, Information Sessions, APSIP, College Fairs, University Fairs, Pow Wows, Trade Shows, Employment and Career Fairs, etc;
  • Representing Six Nations Polytechnic at community events;
  • Coordinating and hosting online events;

Mentoring/Leadership

  • Mentoring the Recruitment Assistant and Admissions Officers;
  • Providing leadership to Student Success Officers on recruitment and admission policy matters;
  • Collaborating with the Admissions Officer regularly to review enrollment and admission data;

General Administration

  • Managing the Student Recruitment budget and expenditures as per operational policy;
  • Participating in the institute’s Admissions Committee when required;
  • Working in collaboration with colleagues to produce institute publications: Calendar, Student Handbook, policies;
  • Understanding and informing applicants on SNP and partner admissions policies;
  • Participating in program focus groups, advisory committees to ensure program quality and student success;
  • Providing guidance on new program development with respect to admissions and recruitment;
  • Keeping a database of potential student contacts as obtained from recruitment events and track conversion rates for programs;
  • Preparing and executing a strategic recruitment campaign in collaboration with Student Affairs, Communications, and the Office of the Registrar; and
  • Other related duties, as required.

Qualifications


Education and Experience:

  • University degree in social sciences/humanities/education or related; and
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in a similar role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of the post-secondary sector, including Universities, Colleges, and Indigenous Institutes;
  • Demonstrated competencies in strategic thinking, coordination, analysis, policy development, and change management;
  • A general and current knowledge of Hodinǫshǫ:nih history, culture, values, contemporary issues, community priorities, and stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written expression (i.e., faultless spelling and grammar, and professional style);
  • Sound interpersonal skills including communication, organization, negotiation, confidentiality and professional judgement;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage schedules, portfolios, and timelines, to meet demanding deadlines;
  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team setting, demonstrating Hodinǫshǫ:nih values of Ga`nigohi:yo:; and
  • Demonstrated familiarity with standard desktop computing programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications, on the Windows 2010 (or later) operating system;.
