Speech/Language Therapist
iHealthOX is currently seeking a Casual Speech Language Pathologist to join its fun, in-house therapy team. New graduates as well as experienced therapists are welcome to apply.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- provide speech and language pathology assessment and treatment to clients to enable clients to achieve an optimal level of functional independence as well as to work as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary team with regards to client management and programming
- Using a Client Centered approach, assess the client, establish treatment goals with the client, and formulate and implement a plan in collaboration members of the iHealthOX team
- Determine the extent of communication problems by having a client complete basic reading and vocalizing tasks or by giving standardized tests
- Identify treatment options
- Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan
- Teach clients how to make sounds and improve their voices
- Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to clients with little or no speech capability
- Work with clients to improve their ability to read and write correctly
- Work with clients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
- Counsel clients and families on how to cope with communication disorders
- Keep accurate records of all treatments and progress reports
- Demonstrates iHealthOX values: accountability, innovation, respect
- Must have experience working with children and adolescents with autism
- A solid understanding of autism and behavioral principles
- Experience utilizing applied behavior analytic strategies to modify behavior is an asset
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Honours Degree in Speech Language Pathology with Masters Equivalent or Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Membership in good standing of the College of Audiology and Speech and Language Pathology of Ontario
- Computer skills - email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
- Post-graduate Speech and Language Pathology treatment courses
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented
- Natural ability to interact with children, with the ability to work with a variety of children on the autism spectrum, at different functioning levels
- Must display energy and creativity
- Critical thinking skills, with strong analytical abilities
- Strong work ethic, with the ability to meet scheduling commitments
- Strong leadership skills to include conflict resolution, coaching, and training
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and abide by ethical guidelines and policies. Maintain professional boundaries with clients and their families
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully adapt and perform in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
